d The Brief

Radisson Blu Edwardian’s 14 luxury hotels in London, Guildford and Manchester’s most desirable locations have a fine reputation for guest satisfaction and a strong commitment to sustainability, having achieved ‘Highly Commended’ in the Best Carbon Reduction in a Hotel Chain category during the 2011 Green Tourism Week Awards and also being presented with the prestigious Green 500 Gold Award.

Radisson Blu Edwardian’s management team was looking to ›enhance the sleep experience for its guests and at the same time reinforce its ‘green’ credentials. ›The group had previously purchased mattresses from a variety of high-profile luxury suppliers including Vi-Spring and Sealy but were seeking a long-term relationship with a supplier whose products met the following criteria:

  • Ultimate comfort
  • Made from ›natural, organic and recycled materials
  • More durable› and harder wearing
  • Heathier
  • Easier to clean and maintain

l Our Solution

In conjunction with senior management at Radisson Blu Edwardian, we designed an exclusive version of our VERTUE mattress that superseded the specification and comfort levels required and employed materials that demonstrated a commitment to sustainability:

  • ››2,000 pocket spring count for optimum durability
  • Springs made from 90% recycled steel
  • Unique ‘Memory Fibre’ layer for added comfort
  • Outer ticking made from 100% Egyptian cotton
  • ›100% natural wool and silk quilt
  • Hypo-allergenic
  • One-sided, non-turn design
  • ›Micro quilted top surface for ease of cleaning
  • Materials tested to crib 5/source 5 flammability standard – BS7177 UK regulations

VERTUE waterproof mattress covers made from eucalyptus wood pulp used in conjunction with our mattresses provide an anti-dust mite barrier, improved cleanliness and help to extend the life of the mattress.

Not only did our VERTUE mattress design exceed Radisson Blu Edwardian’s brief, we were able to supply at 25% less cost than other well known luxury mattress suppliers whose products were far less well specified and less environmentally friendly.

Following an intensive 3-month trial Radisson Blu Edwardian’s guests reactions were so positive that VERTUE mattresses were chosen to be installed in all the group’s hotels around the UK.

Paul Mansi

Chief Operating Officer

“In 2011 we began working with Perpetua to design a new mattress exclusively for Radisson Blu Edwardian hotels.

Our guests expect unrivalled comfort and sleep quality so that was our starting point. But we wanted to lessen our environmental impact so Perpetua were tasked to use recycled and natural materials throughout the mattress. As an added complication we wanted to add features to aid our housekeeping staff in moving mattresses and keeping them clean.

Perpetua responded with an exclusive Radisson Blu Edwardian version of their new eco-friendly ‘VERTUE’ mattress which met all our requirements, surpassed the quality, comfort and features of mattresses we had previously purchased and also was significantly less expensive. This new mattress is now being rolled out across our hotels and I’m delighted it has proved immediately popular with our guests as is evident from the large number of extremely positive Trip Advisor reviews we’ve received.

Throughout our relationship with Perpetua we’ve enjoyed an exceptional level of service and I would recommend them to any hotel management team wanting both to improve their guests’ sleeping experience and simultaneously reduce their mattress expenditure”.
